An interview with the Online Hate Prevention Institute’s CEO, Dr Andre Oboler, has featured on the SBS TV News accross Australia, as well as in an online articles on the SBS website.
Dr Oboler’s comments appear in the News bulletin of Friday 17 August. The story focuses on the Aboriginal Memes incident on Facebook.
A written article with further details can be seen on the SBS News site. In both articles Dr Oboler raises the need to stop the enforcement of action against online hate from falling into a gap between different government agencies. As the written article makes clear, Dr Oboler has highlighted both the possibility of an Ombudsman and the option of expanding the powers of the Australian Human Rights Commission or the ACMA. The need to close the gap was also detailed in OHPI’s submission to the Federal Opposition earlier this year.
